Lance Gries was an award winning dancer with the Trisha Brown Company from 1985 - 1992. His solo and group choreography has been presented in various NYC venues as well as in festivals and theaters around the world. He has been on the faculty at PARTS, the international school for contemporary dance in Brussels, Belgium since its inception 10 years ago, and has also been a guest teacher numerous times at London Contemporary Dance, CND in Paris, France, The Lyon Opera Ballet, Frankfurt Conservatory as well as for many European modern dance companies. Mr Gries is considered one of the leading exponents of American postmodern dance.

Each class will be organized around a specific point, or points, of research. These explorations will range from functional anatomy: "How is the spine centered in the body? And how do I use this sense of centering as a support for movement?" "How does the diaphragm support this experience?" To observations about awareness: "Is my personal metaphor and relationship to space inhibiting or freeing me?" "How can I use my emotional self as a source of letting go?" To larger theoretical questions about dancing's relationship to the rest of the life and the universe: Anything goes!

We will use a lot of shared hands on information, exploratory exercises and improvisational movement to find personal relationships and responses to these searches and more. Discussion, Insight and Provocative Approaches will be encouraged.
